St. Charles Expands Temporary Outdoor Dining

Updated: Jun 18, 2020

Following Governor J.B Pritzker’s announcement that the region is in Phase 3 of the Restore Illinois plan, the St. Charles City Council established a temporary permit process to allow expanded outdoor dining for restaurants and bars in St. Charles.

The temporary permit allows restaurants who do not typically have outdoor dining areas to create such a space, while promoting recommended social distancing as part of COVID-19 health and safety measures. Guidelines regarding the use of public and private parking lots, sidewalks, ADA parking requirements and more have been detailed in the Mayor's Executive Order which be can read here.

Since the guidelines were approved, over two dozen restaurants have been issued temporary outdoor dining permits. This does not include restaurants with established patios who did not need to seek an expanded outdoor dining permit.
