Work continues at the First Street East Plaza and Alter Brewing

The First Street East Plaza, which began construction in Fall 2019, is nearing completion. Latest progress includes the installation of hand rails on the bi-level pedestrian river walk extension. The plaza is being prepped for tile installation and lighting needs to be installed, but the plaza is on schedule to open in mid-May, just in time for the 2020 summer season.

The plaza expansion will give residents and visitors outdoor seating and gathering space in the heart of downtown with scenic views of the Fox River. The plaza also has space to highlight public art, the first installment will be a sculpture by Chicago based artist Matthew Hoffman, donated by the St. Charles Business Alliance. The sculpture is 7’ wide, 6' tall, 3' deep and weights over 1,500lbs and will be on display in the east plaza.

Alter Brewing is joining the St. Charles community with a full service restaurant and brewery at 12 S First Street, adjacent to the East Plaza. This is Alter Brewing's second location and the first with a full service restaurant.
Featuring a large outdoor patio along the Fox River, the patio is designed to provide year round entertainment with a heated enclosure during the winter months. The delivery of the bi-level container bar this week brings patio vision to near completion.
